Eccles is a tranquil village situated just six miles from both Kelso and Coldstream in the Scottish Borders. The site of the development is south facing and on the main street, directly opposite the village hall. There is a Church of Scotland, a sub post office and a primary school within the village.
The nearby towns of Kelso and Coldstream provide excellent facilities. Kelso, described by Sir Walter Scott as 'the most beautiful if not the most romantic village in Scotland', boasts over 100 retail outlets. Situated at the confluence of the rivers Teviot and Tweed, and with a population of over 6,000, the town has many places of interest including Floors Castle, Kelso Abbey, Smailholm Tower, Stable Gallery, Kelso Pottery, the Ice Rink, Skittle Alley and Swimming Pool, and the famous Kelso Race Course.
Coldstream is the birthplace of the Coldstream Guards and is situated on the River Tweed, forming the boundary between Scotland and England. Place of interest include the Coldstream Museum and Heatherslaw Light Railway. There are a number of garden centres and golf courses in the area.
Communications are excellent with the A697 lying approximately one mile distant providing a straightforward route to the north of England as well as to Edinburgh via the A68 which it connects with at Carfraemill. In addition, Berwick upon Tweed, with a main East Coast Line railway station is approximately 18 miles distant offering ready access to Edinburgh and Newcastle upon Tyne, both of which have international airports. The surrounding countryside is noted for its scenic beauty and in addition to being rich in wildlife, contains a wealth of historic sites and stately homes, many of which are open to the public are various times of the year.
